Surprise your guests with a stylish setup featuring mix-and-match catering favorites.

Gone are the days when your dining table or serving station needs to be matchy-matchy. Surprise guests at your next event with a stylish setup featuring mixed-and-matched plates and serving ware. Whether you’re hosting a family-style feast, building a buffet or looking for a creative way to pass hors d’oeuvres, there are plenty of ways to impart imagination into your design. Keep reading for a clash course on how to style a few of our favorite pieces.

Repurpose Your Plates (and Cups)

Think outside the box when it comes to choosing serving pieces. Chargers, dinner plates, salad plates and even bread and butter plates, are creative alternatives for displaying your food. We love how our friends at Saltbox Catering used our Valentina Dinner Plate and Tondo Charger to plate their hors d’oeuvres. When it comes to mini appetizers, think small. Our 3-ounce Short Demitasse Cup works perfectly for sipping a single serving of soup and our MiniByte Copper Saute Pan provides a stylish presentation for small bites.

Play with Shapes & Textures

Add a touch of whimsy to your design by incorporating an assortment of patterns, colors, shapes and textures. Mixing materials like faux wood platters and glass plates, as well as a variety of shaped vessels, adds visual interest. Pair our Round Cylinder Bowls with Rectangle and Oval White China Platters to add interesting shapes to your table. Our Heirloom Charcoal Charger is the perfect way to create a contrast of the existing white pieces, and make your dish truly pop.

Clash & Coordinate

While we love the mélange concept, you’ll still want to have a strategy when it comes to styling your serving ware. Pick a color scheme or theme and work your pieces around it. For example, you could choose a blue and white theme and have plates with contrasting floral or geometric patterns (think our Savannah Coupe plate with a Fleur De Lis Charger). But don’t overdo it; your design should ultimately look effortless and unique. Pro tip: incorporate neutral tones. Neutral plates, like our Heirloom China, are a great way to complement colorful patterned plates while softening the overall look.
