Wedding Trend: Micro Weddings

Debating on whether to elope or pull out all the stops for a big bash? A micro-wedding might be the solution.  A micro-wedding is the perfect blend of modern meets traditional and is usually a celebration of 50 guests or less.

A micro-wedding gives you a lot of flexibility when it comes to where you want to have your wedding, and allows you to get creative with your venue options.  Want to say ‘I do’ in a tented venue with a mountainside view? Great! Dreaming of a destination wedding in Newport, RI but don’t want to stress about coordinating logistics for a large group? Problem solved.  Always dreamed of getting hitched at your favorite bustling bar or restaurant in Boston? Why not. Micro-weddings also give you an opportunity to create a space where you can spend one on one time with your guests without feeling overwhelmed.

Just because you’re opting for a smaller celebration doesn’t mean you need to ditch the elements of a larger wedding that you may love.  The key is to get really intentional with the vendors you’re sourcing to showcase your love story, and to weave in elements are special to you. It also allows you to spread your dollars further.  If you’re hosting a gathering with 20 people, but have a budget as if you were throwing a 100-person party, you can opt to use a portion of that budget and still be able to really personalize and design the wedding of your dreams. Highly curate your tabletop design, work with a caterer or restaurant to weave in your favorite foods, create a custom bar and lounge area to carve out different settings throughout your space, create that photo booth or champagne wall!

Tents (whether in your back yard or at a venue), boutique properties or restaurants are the perfect spaces to host your big day.  Many larger venues have guest minimums, but if the micro-wedding trend sticks around, we may see a shift in this.  If you have your heart set on a venue with a guest minimum far exceeding your count, it doesn’t hurt to ask if they can accommodate your request, especially if you’re thinking of a Friday or Sunday wedding.
